The worst feeling a boat owner can have is to feel fuzzy broken edges of fiberglass on their own boat. However, fiberglass is very repairable. From the smallest scratch to a very extensive hole. A fiberglass boat can easily be repaired with a bit of glass fabric and resin. Your "lay-up" will very durable if you follow the correct procedures in fiberglass repair. Fiberglass lay-up means layers of glass fabric saturated with polyester resin. The repair is time consuming but worth while when you see the finished product. We start the process by starting to start by cut-away the damage, which starts with tapping the impacted area to determine the extent of the damage. Next we would remove the damaged area.
The following step would be to grind the damaged area, apply resin and mat until area is filled. Then prep and sand the area until smooth to touch. Then we would proceed with the painting process.To achieve a high gloss or matt finish.
